In brief
Raloxifene 60 mg is used by women past menopause to prevent or treat osteoporosis and, where osteoporosis or a high risk is present, to reduce the chance of invasive breast cancer.
What raloxifene is used for
According to the Evista consumer medicine information, raloxifene serves postmenopausal women in two ways. Osteoporosis can be both prevented and treated with it, and for women who already have osteoporosis, or whose risk is high, it reduces the likelihood of invasive breast cancer.
This listing shows raloxifene 60 mg. It does not name the manufacturer of the tablets supplied, so check the label on the pack you receive and confirm with your prescriber or pharmacist that it matches your prescription.
From 10 to 360 tablets: what each costs
Compare packs of the same strength. These examples are for 60 mg and are calculated from the listed prices at the shop’s Australian-dollar rate on 8 October 2026, before delivery or other checkout charges.
| Strength | Pack size | Pack price | Price per tablet |
|---|---|---|---|
| 60 mg | 10 | A$35.90 | A$3.59 |
| 60 mg | 90 | A$260.01 | A$2.89 |
| 60 mg | 360 | A$620.59 | A$1.72 |
Against the 10 pack, a tablet is roughly 19.5% cheaper in the 90 pack and roughly 52.0% cheaper in the 360 pack.
A lower price per tablet means a larger upfront payment. Choose only the quantity and strength appropriate to your prescription, and check the expiry date. Prices can change, so confirm the current pack price before ordering.
Evista and other brands
Evista is a 60 mg film-coated tablet recorded on the ARTG (entry 64709). healthdirect shows it as Prescription Only (Schedule 4) and PBS-listed; it also names Fixta, Ralovista, and raloxifene by Apotex, Auro and WGR.
Effect on bone and uterus
Raloxifene acts on oestrogen receptors differently from tissue to tissue: like oestrogen on bone, but without stimulating the endometrium.
Who it is not for
The Evista leaflet excludes women with blood clots now or in the past, women before menopause or who could become pregnant, men, and anyone allergic to raloxifene.
Points to discuss with your doctor
- Long spells of immobility raise clot risk, so keep moving on long journeys.
- Tell the doctor about any earlier stroke or atrial fibrillation.
- It is not recommended when the liver is not working properly.
- Regular breast checks and mammograms continue during treatment.
- Oestrogens or HRT are combined with it only under a doctor’s supervision; warfarin and cholestyramine are named as interacting.
Dose, side effects
One tablet daily at any time, with or without food, is the usual dose in the leaflet, taken regularly; follow your own prescription. Hot flushes, leg cramps, muscle spasms, swelling of the hands, feet or legs, and flu-like symptoms are common. Severe leg pain or swelling, severe stomach pain, breathlessness or pain on breathing need urgent attention.
